The glass roof emulates
the beer garden
When beer gardens became all the rage in the mid-19th Century, the inner courtyard was converted in an open-air terrace. To permit year-round use, however, the inner courtyard was built over in 1896, creating the large dining hall. For lighting purposes, the newly created "New Restaurant Hall" was arched over with a modern glass roof. The glass roof emulates the beer garden
